I Don't Even Buy Green Bananas

Best Quote of the day in my salon which still has me chuckling.
One of my senior's husband was dealing with the ever hounding Direct Energy salesman who happen to ring your doorbell at suppertime. They consistently try to lure you into their contractual " We'll be your buddy and give you the best deal in town and save you tons of money.... if you sign with us" for heating your house with gas in a winter city, where one has no choice but to practically mortgage their gas bill in Alberta.
When a senior is in his 90's, he doesn't look long term for a gas contract.. To which my senior answered.
." A contract?? What do I want a contract for? You may not even be talking to me tomorrow."
"Gawd, I don't even buy green bananas".

Meaning...simply choose your bananas according to how you expect to consume them...and appply that little bit of philosophy into your day. And judging on how many I throw out that are over ripened and brown....it's a good point for me to ponder when strolling the banana aisle of life as well.

Graham is 1 month old

Holy crap Guys...one month and you gotta keep wakin' me up.
Is this the face you want? Grrrrrr!

11 o'clock Moon change

Okay I lied...Jupiter is back....see over on the right....different spot but he's back. I'm starting to think this is not a big deal....I think I see this Jupiter planet every night, just not as bright and that is with the naked eye and 1/2 a sleeping pill. Still have hopes at checking at 4....maybe.
You can tell TV is really bad when I'm out five times after nine o'clock..... moon shooting. This one is for you Dorothy.

No Jupiter tonite...gotta check at 4 in the morning

No Jupiter tonite and still no Kahuna orange harvest moon...gotta check the sky at about 4 a.m. tomorrow morning......maybe.

September 22 Harvest Moon and it's little buddy Jupiter

This is tonite's Harvet Moon. It wasn't as big as I was anticipating but it sure was bright. Kinda like a big freakin' diamond in the sky. My eyes ares still burning. The full moon will not fall on the September equinox again until 2029. And that little diamond star you see under the Harvest Moon is actually Jupiter, which you will never see this good for another 12 years. Glad I saw it tonite....I'll probably have cataracts by the next one.

Glamping Plum Tart with Streusal Topping

I'm not a fan of desserts that make you pucker and I don't care for them really sweet. So I tweeked this recipe to make it glampalicious. With all the plums on the market right now I'm craving something other than Polish Plum Cake.

Ingredients
Pastry pie shell for Deep dish pie( Tenderflake)
About 20 plums, pitted and sliced thin
(depending on how high you want youir pie)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Streusal Topping
1 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar(half white and half brown)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup cold butter
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a deep dish pie plate with pastry. Add 1/3 cup brown sugar and cinnamon to sliced plums and mix. Pour plum mixture into pastry. Combine flour with cinnamon and sugar mixture and blend with 1/2 cup cold butter until crumbly. Pour crumbly mixture on top plums. Bake for 20 minutes and then turn down the heat to 350 degrees and bake for another 20 minutes. Delicious and not tarty and not too sweet.

Wanna a Little Bling on your Wall??

Look in September Harpers Bazaar and see these Hot Pink mohawk shoes by a well known designer for only 939 bukeroos. I went to my favorite boutique...the Dollar Store and bought a couple of black frames and rhinestones for 3 bucks. I rhinestoned the heels( I hope the designer doesn't see these) and framed the magazine page and voila...a little bling for my wall in Hot Pink. It was a rainy day...so did two of them. If you can't have the real thing for fall to wear, why not at least be able to admire them on your wall. The colour was too pink to not try something crazy with this....or maybe it was just another cold, wet day in Alberta, and this added a little pizazz to the day.

Follow Your Dreams and Make sure that includes Shoes and Diamonds

Any kind of shoes...................

And any kind of diamonds
But the Blingier the better...

Shoes With Laces

I wonder when I got these shoes with buckles if I felt the same way as Jake feels today about his shoes with laces. Well one thing for sure is that the shoes with laces will never be on the feet that mine were. Mine were passed down to two younger sisters and repaired by my dad and worn for probably a period of ten years before they were outgrown....and who knows maybe my brother wore them in a time I can't remember. These are sixty year old shoes and probably with a little red shoe dye would last another 60 years, nails and soles and all.
Shoes and Pj's

Baba.... let's go back to that other aisle with shoes
He's just a boy for a little while...I can't refuse
What aisle are you talking about that you wanna see?
I wanna see the black and white shoes that have laces for me
What do you mean shoes with laces, shoes for outdoors?
No Baba, those black and white shoes just like yours
I look down at my runners and snicker a bit
When I tell him 'bout this years later, he'll have a fit
To think he wanted shoes like the one's Baba was wearing
Means giving up Velcro and that's pretty daring.
Let's see if they have a size that fits your feet
Look for a size 12 and I'll buy you a treat
Guess what? There is only one pair left on the whole shelf
See if they fit and try to put them on yourself
Baba, they fit me, they fit me and they are "Oh so Cool"
Wait until I show them to kids at school
Well Jake, you can't wear them until you can tie your laces
Then your Mom will let you wear them to many places
Wait until my Mom and Dad see my big boy shoes
What will they say and what will they do?
Well Jakee, first your Baba will be in super doodoo
For buying big boy shoes with 2 sets of laces for you
So you will have to try real hard to tie a bow
But in the meantime you'll have to wear your velcro
But Baba, these are so cool, can I put them both on
Yeah, what the hell ....grab them before they're gone
So the kid's in the cart wearing his unpaid shoes with laces
With the biggest smile for all Zeller's shopping faces
Lukee is in the buggy eating unpaid Fruit Loops out of the box
And about now I could use a Vodka on the rocks
Imagine when a pair of shoes made you smile
Oh to be a kid again for just a while.
Oh what the hell am I talking about....I still feel that way when I buy a pair of earrings at Walmart for $4.99.

The Wrath of the Siberian Frost

I think the Siberian frost moved into my neighborhood last night. This morning everything that was once green and had life, is now black, brown and dead. My poor sunflower that was dwarfed in the early stages by a Virginia Creeper had no chance of ever petaling but was still regal looking with it's unopened head. I had a long glance at it last night, regretting that it wouldn't have a chance to bloom. I never expected to see it hanging it's head in black death this morning. My Shastas bit the dust as well. They were gorgeous. The Virginia Creepers never have a chance to change colours. If the bugs don't eat them up, Jack Frost will destroy them overnight. I can see 10 orange garbage bags lined up this weekend for sure. It is so cold here....7 degrees..... compared to temperatures of 33 last year. Is this Alberta or Siberia? What the hell is going on?

Russia attacks Poland September 17, 1939

Russia attacks Poland on this day, September 17th, 1939. One half of the country is seized by Nazi's who invaded earlier and now from the cowardly, shadows of the eastern dark comes the big surprise. The country of Poland was ripped apart by these two evils for the next 50 years, with border changes, lost territories, destruction, death, displacement and communism. What the Nazi's didn't destroy, communism crippled. But 50 years later the Polish people in Solidarity regained their freedom and broke the yoke of communism in their country.

Brandy's Best Black-Bottomed Banana Loaf

Well this is probably the most scrumpdily-ishcious banana loaf I've had in a long time. Have to give Brandy credit for this. Not only did it look good, but was really moist like a cake. Some like it dark, some like it light...well there you go ....a little of each.

1/2 cup softened butter
3 over-ripe bananas
1/2 cup sour cream
2 large eggs
2 cups flour

1/4 cup flour
3 tbsp. rolled oats
3 tbps.brown sugar
3 tbsp. softened butter

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Stit into wet ingredients. Split the batter in half. Sift thr cocoa powder into half the batter and mix. Pour chocolate batter intp prepared loaf pan and top with regular banana bread batter.

September 11th

It is hard to believe this was 9 years ago. It seems like yesterday the world stopped to watch this unbelievable horror on television.

Anonymous Pedestrian

Aren't these amazing statues? These are found near the railway station in Wroclaw(pronounced Vrot-swaf), Poland. A series of 14 stone pedestrians descend into the earth on one side of the street and emerge on the other. These commemorate the introduction of Martial Law in Poland and in particular, the many people who went missing in the middle of the night in December of 1981. The official name of these statues is " Transition" and the sculptor was Jerzy Kalina.
